Safety first. Follow official evacuation orders and local emergency guidance. This checklist covers the home, not personal safety planning.
Before the season (by June 1)
- Generator serviced and tested
- Shutters inspected, hardware complete and labeled
- Roof, gutters and loose outdoor items checked
- Photos of the home and contents for insurance
- Know where the water, gas and electrical shutoffs are
- Decide who will put up shutters and check the home if you're away
When a storm is forecast
- Shutters up; outdoor furniture secured or stored
- Pool: follow your pool professional's guidance, typically not draining it
- Refrigerator set colder; important items moved off the floor
- Generator fuel and exercise confirmed
After the storm
- Wait for the all-clear; avoid downed lines and standing water
- Photograph damage before cleanup
- Don't run an AC or generator that was under water until it's checked
- Report water intrusion fast to limit damage
- Call your concierge: one call routes the right trades
Uniform can only respond in active markets and as safety and access allow after a storm.
